1992'de İstanbul'dan memleketi olan Çamlıhemşin'e geri dönen aile ilk yıllarda 12 metrekarelik bir barınakta para kullanmadan yaşamış, sonrasında şu anda oturdukları yere gelip pansiyonculukla geçinmeye başlamış. Ekodanitap Kaçkarlar'ın yamacında kurulmuştur. Etrafı Karadeniz'e özgü ağaç ve bitkilerle çevrilidir. 5 dönümlük alanda 22 kişinin turistik amaçla kalabildiği kütük evler bulunmaktadır. Çay, üzüm, ahududu, elma, armut, yaban mersini, dağ çileği, erik, mantar gibi birçok ürünün yanı sıra az miktarda sebze de doğa dostu yöntemlerle yetiştirilmektedir. Ev sahibinin kendi elleriyle yapmış olduğu barınakta kalacak olan gönüllüler geldiklerinde tarımın yanı sıra marangozluk işlerinde de tecrübe edinebilir. Bölgenin folklorik öğeleri çok iyi korunmuşken her türlü doğa sporunun yapılabildiği bir bölgede yer almaktadır.

The family returned to their hometown Çamlıhemşin from Istanbul in 1992 and first lived in a tiny lodge, without using money. Then they moved to their current location where they also have a guesthouse. Ekodanitap is located on a mountainside. It is covered with endemic trees and plants of the Black Sea region. Situated on a land of 0.5 hectares, there are log cabins that can accommodate up to 22 people. Many plants like tea, grapes, raspberries, apples, pears, cranberries, wild strawberries, plums and also various vegetables are grown in and around Ekodanitap. The volunteers stay in cabins built by the host himself and they may learn carpentry as well as farming. The folkloric elements of the region are well-protected, and many types of nature sports are available.

Dayi Mehmet and his wife Kader Hanim were lovely hosts. It was a great experience to stay in their farm for 8 days. I helped them with their daily tasks of weeding, planting and general upkeep as well as tending to the chickens. I got three meals per day and my own bungalow to stay in. Work started after a nice breakfast at 8AM, and usually ends around 5-6pm. I took the chance to have nature walks early in the morning, there is a forest around that you can roam around for hours. I never felt unsafe either, since you know there are plenty of villages around, and people have been living there for at least a 1000 years. City-center is about 20 minutes away on foot, though I did not much care for it personally. I recommend this place if you are willing to do hard and disciplined work!

Beautiful place, excellent accommodation, gorgeous meals.
I would like to mention that we were unprepared for such hard labor. We experience muscle and joint pain from digging wet soil and carrying heavy weights. We had left on our third day, breaking our request to stay for ten days. It was our first wwoofing experience and we got afraid that farming is not for us, but actually, on the next farm, everything was much easier. We would like to have more freedom to choose between working and resting hours, instead of being told at which time to start and being obliged to finish the task at whatever cost.
For volunteers: I would recommend you to bring your own working clothes, rubber shoes and gloves because the host does not provide them, although you would not be able to work without them.
What is also important for us is the ability to cook for ourselves, but the kitchen was only at the host's home and we were eating only what was proposed to us and only at particular hours. As I told you, we prefer more freedom, but it is only our IMHO, maybe this place would be 100% for you, but we will not come back ;)

Demirci ailesine benim gönüllü çalışma isteğimi kabul ettikleri için ve beni canı gönülden ağırladıkları için teşekkür ederim. Gayet kültürlü ve doğa dostu bir aile. Permakültür felsefesini yaşam biçimi haline dönüştürmüş yaklaşık 29 yıldır Rize Çamlıhemşin'de bulunan topraklarını, maddi olmayan ihtiyaçlarını, doğal ekosistemlerin işleyişini örnek alarak; parçası oldukları doğaya ve üzerinde yaşadıkları dünyaya, zarar vererek değil, yarar sağlayarak işlemişler. Aileye gönüllü destek olmak isteyenlerin ailenin yaşamına ve rutinine doğrudan dahil olacaklarını bilmelerini ve buna hızlıca adapte olabilmeleri için onları oldukları en doğal halleri ile kabul etmelerini tavsiye ederim. Bir de "yogi" adında tatlı bir Saint Bernard köpekleri bulunuyor bir hayli korumacı bir yapıda ve sevimli. Çok lezzetli pilav ve İtalyan mutfağını iyi bilen; dost canlısı oğulları Dağlar, Yogi, Ata (diğer köpek dostları), Gülşah(inek dostları), tavuk ve horoz dostları, cennet bir doğa, çay, bluberry, fasulye, marul, lahana, tere, salatalık ve üzüm bağları, meyve ağaçları ile birlikte 5 dönümlük bir arazide yaşıyorlar. Ormanın içerisinde Çamlıhemşin merkezden 1 km uzaklıkta taksi veya aracınızdan indiğinizde patika yoldan ulaşılıyor ailenin ahşap evine.Evlerinin, bungalovlarının ve ağaç evlerinin mimarisi kendi tasarımları. Kendi el emekleri ile oluşturulmuş.Ormanın sulak oluşu sebebiyle verimli topraklarına ve bu yerlerin kendi ihtiyacı olan enerjiyi kendisinin üretebildiğine gönüllüler şahit olacak.
